It happens to all of us. We get stuck in a rut and feel off. We may feel insecure about our fitness, experience job pressures and time crunches, or we just might not feel motivated to be productive. Shit happens. We’re not going to be on our game all the time and that’s okay. It can be frustrating and mentally exhausting when we don’t feel our best, though. I’ve definitely experienced this – sometimes for prolonged periods. Today, I am going to share a few tips to help get through these ~ruts~.
- Get outside: This is probably my favorite piece of advice. Getting fresh air cures everything! Whether that be going for a quick walk, laying in the sun, or just taking a few deep breaths in the morning, going outside helps calm you down and provide you with a sense of clarity. For me, the longer I’m outside, the better! But any amount of time spent outside will offer great benefits!
- Exercise: Moving will also help. Not only is exercise good for your physical wellbeing, but it is also great for your mental state. It releases endorphins that help boost your mood. Personally, when I am struggling, working out helps me feel better. It doesn’t matter the type of exercise as long as you’re moving! Yoga, running, and even snowboarding are some of my favorite ways to get some movement in to feel better. Exercising also gives you a chance to blast some music and jam out!
- Meditate: Sometimes, going deep within yourself is helpful. It is beneficial because it allows you to go into your truest self, question your why, or just be. I find it grounding and helpful to center myself. Sometimes,I struggle to stay “in the zone” of meditation, but just taking a few deep breaths, repeating a mantra, or even using an app are great ways to start out.
- Talk to someone: Different people cope with stress differently. Some are more introverted and tend to keep their feelings inside (me), others prefer to word vomit their feelings. Either way, we all need to talk things out at times. Having a trusted friend or family member that you can honestly open up to will provide a great sense of relief. Take it from someone who doesn’t share much, talking it out is sometimes just the thing you need.
- Journal: On the other hand, sometimes you just need to keep things to yourself. When you feel this way, journaling is a great way to release some of that stress. The best part is that you can be completely unfiltered and let loose!
- Have a dance party: This is another favorite! I guess it could be lumped into the exercise category, but jamming out to some good music is always the best cure! You can do it with friends or by yourself. I dance alone in my room all the time and I am not ashamed of it!
These are just a few of my favorite tips to find your groove and get out of a rut. I hope they are helpful for your own lives. Be sure to leave a comment if you try any of these tips or discover a new one! I’d love to hear!
